Neighbourhood Plans

Communities can shape development in their areas through the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans.

Neighbourhood planning is a right for communities introduced through the Localism Act 2011. Communities can shape development in their areas through the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans, Neighbourhood Development Orders and Community Right to Build Orders.

Once adopted, Neighbourhood Development Plans and Orders have statutory weight. Decision makers will be obliged by law, to take what it says into account when considering proposals for development in the area the plan or order covers.
