The Conservation Area is situated within the Parishes of Tavistock, Gulworthy and Bere Ferrers. It runs along the course of the former Southern Region railway line extending from Callington Road, Tavistock as far as and including Bere Alston Station. It includes of the whole of the former railway formation, together with all associated structures including:
- viaducts,
- tunnels,
- portals,
- cuttings,
- embankments
- other former railway land; and
- the surviving traditional station buildings and structures at Bere Alston Station.
