On 17 August 2010, the three conservation areas were amalgamated and enlarged to form a single Tavistock Conservation Area. The Conservation Area was originally designated on the date above. 


2014 Revisions

The Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan were reviewed in 2013 and the revised versions adopted 29 April 2014 by Hub Committee. These written documents should be read in conjunction with the maps produced as part of the original 2009 Appraisal and Management Plan. These remain as adopted supporting information.

Description

Beginning from the northern eastern corner point of the present Tavistock Conservation Area designated just NW of the end of Greyhaven (SX 4866,7476) the boundary will follow the leat NE before turning NW alongside the Kelly College cricket pavilion up to the old railway line. The former railway is followed on NW side as far as Old Exeter Road where it crosses the railway and runs NE before turning S opposite Wilminstone Industrial Estate and along field boundaries to Parkwood Road, thereby incorporating Kelly College campus. To the SE of this point the old weir is included and then turning S the E side of the River Tavy is followed to the SW of the sports field of Mount House School and then turns SE along field boundaries to The Lodge House.

Along Violet Lane as far as the first field boundary then W parallel with Mount Tavy Road to the pair of semi-detached properties and N of the gardens of Campion Rise and including 2 - 6 Green Hill  at the junction of Green Hill. Continue W behind Rock Park and then SW along the old railway line SW of Dolvin Road Cemetery. A diversion to the SE takes in mine workings and then to the W of gardens on Deer Park Close but including 1 Deer Park Close and St. Johns House then back to Whitchurch Road and N to Abbey Rise.

SW down Abbey Rise and along footpath to N side of Pixon Lane and continue to roundabout SE of Westbridge. The corner property 71 Plymouth Road is included then the boundary follows the E side of Plymouth Road to incorporate the New Cemetery then W across the River Tavy and along W bank N to Westbridge. Turning NW follow Plymouth Road to Fitzford Cottages and SW taking in the Cottages and Allotment Gardens.

Returning to W of Allotments to the Catholic Church and follow NW side of Callington Road down to Maudlins Lane which is included as far as 6 Maudlins Lane then returns to 3 Maudlins Lane and turns NE then NW enclosing the hospital site and up to New Launceston Road. East along the N side of New Launceston Road into Watts Road past (excluding) Carmel Gardens then N to the old railway line taking in 3 Watts Road. Follow N side of railway line to NE side of Old Launceston Road, around St. Edmunds and NE along rear garden boundaries of Courtenay Road and Glanville Road, cross to E side before Courtlands Road and continue to Butcher Park Hill.

Enclose the garden of Rosebank just S of the allotment gardens, exclude the development on Buddle Close but include the former workhouse complex. SW to Drake Road and follow the rear garden boundaries along Trelawny Road to Kilworthy Road and S to top of Kilworthy Hill between WDBC offices and old railway station. Turn NE along rear garden boundaries of Old Exeter Road as far as 71 Old Exeter Road, including the pair of semi-detached properties 9 and 11 Parkwood Road. Then pass N of Brooklands towards (but excluding) The Nook where the boundary turns S to join the leat and return to beginning including the site of former Tavistock Foundry.
