The Conservation Area at North Tawton includes the centre of the village centering on The Square.  It includes Fore Street as far west as Nos. 27 and 62, and North Street as far north  as no. 23 and the grounds of Essington House.  Eastwards the area includes Market Street, the church and churchyard, the Castle Mound and Devonshire House.  To the south, the area includes Exeter Street up to and including the School and the White House:  High Street as far as, and including, South View and part of the Memorial Park; and Barton Street as far as no. 9 and Lyme Cottage. Within this area are included all buildings and their front and rear curtilages. 

Amended 21 June 1993

This amendment to the existing designation extends the boundary to the northeast to include the properties along Essington road. It also includes Essington itself, but excludes the more modern development at Arundel Road. To the south it is extended to include North Tawton War Memorial Park.
