The entire area of the fortified Saxon Burgh. The Conservation Area is described as follows: The area circumscribed by a line commencing at the west corner of the hall on the road junction at SX 5113 8941, east along its frontage and that of the adjacent barn. It then runs south-east along the east boundary of the plot behind the barn, and continuing south-east from there until it meets the north-west boundary of field O.S. No. 3276.

From there, south and west along this boundary, along the southern boundaries of field O.S. No. 1570 and of the plot west of it, and of Gorge House, and of fields O.S. Nos. 0062 and 9660.  It then runs along the north-east side of the road leading to the Gorge to the benchmark 675.19. From there, the boundary extends across the road and along the west boundaries of field O.S. No. 8572 and the plot enclosing the earthwork, then along the north-west boundaries of fields O.S. Nos. 8572, 9278, 9182, 9487 and 9686. It then proceeds north-east across the lane into field O.S. No. 0798 for 200 metres, and then south-east to the boundary of O.S. plot No. 1194. It runs north and west around this boundary to Silver Street, then south-west along this street's north-west side to a point opposite the starting place.
