West Devon wants sustainable and healthy future for Devon’s waters

We have joined forces with other organisations to look at how Devon’s water quality could be improved.

Council Leader Mandy Ewings and other senior Councillors attended the Devon Water Summit on 12 December.

The event brought together  Devon’s eight district councils, Government agencies, the Environment Agency, South West Water and other stakeholders to discuss what can be done to improve Devon’s water quality. The Council’s Leader Mandy Ewings and other senior members of the Council took part in the Devon Water Summit

Cllr Chris West, West Devon’s Lead Member for Climate and Biodiversity, said: “Protecting our local environment and biodiversity is one of the Council’s priorities, and having clean water is crucial to do that.

“Our waters serve our residents, our wildlife, plants and the entire environment. It’s vital that we do whatever we can to improve water quality in West Devon and the whole county.

“All of Devon’s eight districts stand united on this issue. Things must improve, and we will co-ordinate with our fellow councils to apply pressure to both South West Water and the Environment Agency, and lobby government to ensure the required improvements are made.”

The summit looked at challenges and opportunities around water infrastructure, and creating a comprehensive strategy for a sustainable and healthy future for Devon’s waters.
