Privacy and Personal Data

West Devon Borough Council takes your privacy seriously. We will use your information to contact you in regard to energy efficiency improvements to your home. This notice sets out what we will do with your personal information and who we may share it with in respect of the above. 

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched an online eligibility checker to enable you to determine whether you may be eligible for energy efficiency grant funding. Where you use the eligibility checker and are found to be eligible for the scheme, DESNZ will forward your data to West Devon Borough Council to allow us to contact you. 

Both West Devon Borough Council and the DESNZ are acting as independent data controllers for your data and we have a data sharing agreement with DESNZ. This privacy notice does not cover DESNZ and how they use your data. You should read their privacy notice to understand how they will use your data. 

What information about you do we collect? 

We do not collect any information from you, but will process information provided by DESNZ, as follows: 

• The Council will cross reference your data on the Checker to verify what energy efficiency measures your home has received.

• Information will not be collected by the Council but will be provided to us from DESNZ. 

How will your personal data be used? 

Your personal data will be used in the following ways: 

• We will use your data to contact you regarding proposed energy efficiency improvements to your home. 

The Legal basis for processing your data 

Your personal data is processed under the following legal basis: 

Article 6 1(e) processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller. In this case, to ensure we can provide energy efficiency installations through grants. 

Who will your personal data be shared with? 

We will not share your personal data. 

We will never sell your data to anyone else. 

Transferring of data outside of the EU 

Your data will not be transferred outside of the EU. It will be securely stored electronically within the UK only, unless it was necessary for safeguarding or for the prevention and detection of crime. 

Length of time we keep your information  

We will retain your data for as long as it is required to fulfil the purpose it was collected or for as long as is required by legislation. Your data will not be kept for longer than necessary and will be securely deleted no more than two years after the your application has been verified.
