It's time to renew garden waste subscriptions in West Devon

It's the time of year again for West Devon residents to renew their garden waste service to make sure that their grass clippings, weeds and pruned garden waste still gets collected once a fortnight.

An annual subscription to West Devon Borough Council's Garden Waste Collection Service costs £52 per year; one subscription provides four generous reusable sacks, which are collected every fortnight on the same day of the week as your recycling waste collections, in the opposite week to your black bag refuse collections.

You can sign up for 2023-24 collections from 1 March 2023, with collections starting from 1 April 2023. Subscriptions will run until 31 March 2024.

Cllr Lucy Wood, West Devon Lead Member for Environment, said: "Signing up to the garden waste collection service is an incredibly convenient one. When you're tackling jobs like pruning hedges, tending to flowerbeds or just mowing the lawn, knowing that it will be collected from your front door and sent off for composting, rather than having to take it to a recycling centre, is reassuring and could save you a lot of time. The resulting compost is sent off to local farmers.

"The £52 fee for our garden waste service represents good value for money. It works out much cheaper than organising a private collection and would save you money on driving to and from a recycling centre."

If you're already a subscriber to the garden waste service, there will be no changes to your service if you renew your subscription by 1 April, and you can continue to use your current garden waste sacks. 
 
If you're a new subscriber, the Council will automatically deliver garden sacks straight to your door. After that, you will simply need to fill them and leave them along with your household recycling and waste on your next scheduled collection day. If you're subscribing for the first time, the Council aim to deliver their green sacks within ten working days of you signing up. The annual cost of £52 applies for fortnightly collections running until 31 March each year, excluding the two weeks in December when the service is suspended for Christmas. You can check the exact suspension dates on our website or our social media channels in early December.
