West Devon Highly Commended by Customers

West Devon Borough Council has been highly commended at the 2022 Land Data Local Land Charges Awards for Excellence

Land Charges

These national awards, celebrate the work and achievements of local authority Local Land Charge departments which carry out the land and property searches required when someone buys a home in England and Wales.

For this award solicitors and licensed conveyancers around the country were asked to nominate and provide feedback on local authority Local Land Charges teams.

They were asked to nominate teams that they believe consistently commit to delivering a high level of customer service. They were asked to consider quality, efficiency, reliability and value for money when making their choice. Over 100 votes were received.

Cllr Caroline Mott, West Devon Borough Council's Lead Member for Built Environment said: "Massive congratulations to West Devon Borough Council's Local Land Charges Team.  It is always lovely when the hard work of our officers is recognised by the industry they represent.  But this reward is especially fantastic because the commendations are given by the customers who use the service."

"Our team know how important it is for our customers to get a really quick response when queries come up at the end of the conveyancing process.  This can be a very stressful time for some people and the last thing they want to do is to hold up the completion of a sale.

"Typically West Devon Borough Council handles about 2000 searches per year. I am proud of the team for consistently providing timely, accurate property searches to conveyancers, especially during the challenging property market of the last 12 months."

West Devon Borough Council's Local Land Charges team aim for a 5-day turn around on all searches that are submitted to them, and they have been commended for the way that they respond to follow-up queries which often take place at the end of the conveyancing process.

Claire Fryer, West Devon Borough Council's Senior Case Manager for Local Land Charges said: "Wherever possible we signpost people to the quickest self-service route which can save the customer huge amounts of time. Sometimes we find it best to call customers and go above and beyond to process their searches and resolve queries as quickly as possible. This approach is greatly appreciated by our customers who are sometimes the buyers or sellers themselves"

Never a team to rest on their laurels, West Devon Borough Council's Local Land Charges team are now working on a project with the website team to further improve the range of data easily available to customers to help speed up the completion of their property purchase.

Andrew Simpson, Senior Development Manager at the Coal Authority, who sponsored the award, commented: "Excellent customer service should never be taken for granted. It can transform the way we view an individual, group or organisation. Delivering high levels of customer service is very much at the heart of the Coal Authority's ethos and we are delighted to be sponsoring this award. It's clear from the votes and comments that West Devon Borough Council is serving its customers well in terms of accuracy, speed and customer service, they are a very worthy winner."

Supporting conveyancer said: "The service we get is streets ahead of anything we get from elsewhere." "Claire Fryer and her team go above and beyond and provide excellent service."
