Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant

Disabled adaptations as described by the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, up to £30,000.

Applicants must:

  • Meet disability criteria
  • Be Assessed by an OT
  • Subject to means test (unless the adaptions are needed for a child)
  • Must remain in the property as only or main residence for 5 years
  • Local land charge for 10 years for owner occupiers in some circumstances

Accessible Homes Grant

Cover the costs of adaptations over the mandatory DFG limit as well as some contributions identified under mandatory DFG, up to £20,000.

It can also cover some works not covered by the DFG. The contribution must constitute more than one-third of available savings.

Applicants must:

  • Meet disability criteria
  • Be Assessed by an Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Subject to means test (including adaptations for children)
  • Must remain in the property as only or main residence for 5 years
  • Local land charge for 10 years for owner occupiers

Accessible Homes Grant - Stairlifts

Covers the cost of internal straight track and curved track stairlifts up to £20,000.

Applicants must be assessed by an OT or referred by NHS OT.

You must have permission from the property owner, and remain in the property as your only or main residence for 5 years.

Accessible Homes Grant - Moving

Covers some of the costs associated with moving to a more suitable property. Owner-Occupiers can claim up to £10,000 fo, tenants can claim up to £5000

A suitable property must have been identified, and the applicant must remain in the property as their only or main residence for 5 years.

The cost of moving with any adaptation to the new home must be less than adapting an existing home. You must have been resident in the property for 2 year before making the application. For tenants, the landlord will need to complete the referral.

A local land charge for 5 years will be applied for owner-occupiers.

Healthy Homes Grant

Covers work to make safe a defect or hoarding/accumulation that is considered to pose a risk to the health, safety or welfare of the occupier. Claim up to £5000 over a 2-year rolling period.

Applicants must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit and the works must be agreed by the Council.

A local land charge for 5 years will be applied for owner-occupiers.

For more substantial works and repairs, a home improvement loan will be required.

The Council may require landlords to carry out the repairs.

Home Improvement Loan

Home improvement loans can cover works identified in the other grants as determined by each Council policy. Eligibility is based on affordability and criteria will vary depending on the application.

Ecoflex Top-Up

Used for energy efficiency works through Energy Company Obligation (ECO) funding obtained through individual installers. Grants of up to £2000 available.

Applicants must:

  • Qualify for ECO funding
  • Meet the Councils' statement of intent
  • Be either the owner-occupier or a private landlord
  • Remain in the property as only or main residence for 5 years

A local land charge for 5 years will be applied.

Green Home Grant

Funding for energy efficiency works for either external wall insulation or an air source heat pump system. Grants of up to £10,000 available.

Applicants must:

  • Have a net income of £30,000 or below
  • Be in a Band D or below
