£10,000 Cash Fund Opens for Okehampton Community Groups

West Devon Borough Council are inviting applications for the Okehampton s106 Community Facilities Grant.

Pile of four £20 notes

A total of £10,000 grant funding is available for local not-for-profit community groups to provide new or improved facilities to meet an increased need as a result of housing development. The deadline for applications is 17 September 2021.

To qualify for a grant, the community facility that is seeking funding must be based in Okehampton Parish. Community groups will also need to provide evidence that the existing facility cannot meet additional demands.

Examples of projects that could benefit from the funding boost include (but are not limited to):

·        New or improved play and sports facilities

·        Creation of open spaces or allotments

·        New or improved community centres

·        Creation of workspace for community enterprises

West Devon Borough Council's Lead Member for Communities, Cllr Terry Pearce, said:"This funding is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to make a big difference in their community. It will provide new or improved facilities for the people of Okehampton.

"Housing development can sometimes mean more people want to use a space or join a club. This s106 money is allocated as part of the development process to make sure that suitable community facilities can continue to be provided. The funding will help our local community groups to meet an increased need by expanding existing facilities, or by creating something completely new. Whether you run a local sports club, have a big vision for public art, or have any other projects you need help to deliver, I encourage community groups and the Town Council to make an application to take advantage of the funding on offer."

There is a total of £10,000 s106 funding available. There is no maximum limit for applications but organisations seeking funding need to be aware that there will be competing projects also applying for financial support. Match funding will be looked upon very favourably as it will enable the s106 grant scheme to stretch further and achieve more benefits for the local community.

Applications are open until 5:00 p.m. on 17 September 2021.
