West Devon has been divided into six cluster groups, with each cluster being assigned dedicated officers. These officers will be working closely with each clusters' local Ward Members, who will be instrumental in supporting their local communities. Working cohesively with local town and parish councils and the volunteer groups already on the ground, this unified approach will ensure there is comprehensive support in each area of the Borough.
Councillor Neil Jory, Leader of West Borough Council, said: "I'm so proud of my West Devon Borough Councillors who have all worked exceptionally hard to support their communities. We're in this for the long haul and everyone working together for the common good is exactly where we all want to be. Thank you to everyone for pulling together."
As an example of one of the groups which West Devon Borough Council is helping to support is Tavistock Locals Help. The organisation was formed by a group of West Devon Borough Councillors, Tavistock Town Councillors and concerned citizens of Tavistock.
One example of working together to support local communities is the collaboration between Tavistock Town Council and West Devon Borough Council through making Town Council premises, staff and vehicles available to help with the relief effort, including collecting food from supermarkets, transit to distribution points and assisting with the storage of food parcels
Councillor Anne Johnson, Mayor of Tavistock Town Council, said: "The community response to supporting the vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis has been incredible and the Town Council is doing all it can to help and support our community working with the emergency planning authority, the voluntary sector and local businesses to deliver the emergency effort. Thank you to everyone in the Town who has pulled together, with so much hard work, it is a credit to everyone in Tavistock and the community spirit which makes it such a special place."
