Supporting you through the application process

We want to make sure that everyone who applies for our jobs is treated fairly and has equal access to opportunities. 

From first applying for a role, all the way through to receiving a job offer, we make sure that all applicants are treated with dignity and respect throughout. This is improved by rigorous and up-to-date policies and processes.

The application process

1. Register on our Website

The first step of the process is to complete an online application form. If you haven’t already got an account with us, you will need to set one up. Don’t worry; it's a really straightforward process, and you only need to enter your personal details once when setting up the account.

If you already have an account, register on our website with your email address and a password so we can contact you about your applications.

Once you have logged in, you’ll get your own personal dashboard to see any job you are applying for and to keep your information up-to-date.

2. Application

We want to get to know as much about you as possible, so please complete your application carefully giving us as much information about you as you can. 

First, please check whether the role asks you to complete an application form or send in a Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a supporting statement. 

Make sure you use the Supporting Statement to tell us about your skills, experience and what makes you perfect for the role, carefully referring to the Role Profile and Person Specification. Tell us what you have to offer that matches what we're looking for.

We will accept applications until midnight on the closing date, unless otherwise stated. Once applications are closed, they are sent to the recruiting manager for short listing. 

The recruiting manager will look at your information against the ‘essential’ and ‘desirable’ requirements of the role, as shown in the role profile. If you need any more information about the role, please do contact the recruiting manager who will be happy to chat with you. Their contact details are included in the job advert.

 

3. Selection Stage and preparing for your interview

If you've made it this far, you've managed to capture the interest of one of our recruiting managers and you're one step closer to joining our great organisation. Congratulations!

We want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as you can be in your interview, so we have put together some tips to help you prepare:

  • Role Profile: familiarise yourself with what this sets out and think about what skills and competencies you have for the role.
  • Research - find out as much as you can about our organisation and the service you would be working for.
  • Be on time - if the interview is in person, make sure you know how long it takes to get to your interview. If you are travelling by car, find out where you can park and allow plenty of time.
  • Evidence – gather all of the documents you have been asked to bring to the interview.

On the day

  • Show enthusiasm - interviewers want to hear what you have to say, and this is your chance to shine so make the most of it. Emphasise your positive points and convince them you are the best person for the job.
  • Answer the question – make sure you answer the question that has been asked and give specific examples whenever possible. Highlight your successes and the skills and experience you have to offer.
  • Ask questions - at the end of your interview, take the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the role or team. It is important that we are the right organisation for you.

4. Conditional Offer of Employment

The recruiting manager will contact you to tell you whether you have been successful or not.

If you'd like some feedback on your application or selection process performance, please ask the recruiting manager.

If you have been offered a conditional offer of employment, it is conditional based on the following:

  • acceptable references,
  • qualifications and
  • health checks, 
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks (see point 5)
  • The right to live and work in the UK (see point 6)

5. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks

The safety and welfare of vulnerable people is vital, therefore if the job you apply for involves working with vulnerable people, or any personal confidential information about them, you must agree to a disclosure notification being requested from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). 

The job advertisement will state clearly if a DBS check is required for the role. 

6. The Right to Live and Work in the UK

We may need to ask you on our application form whether you have the right to work in the UK. This is required under The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. 

We also must check the identification documents for all potential employees before they start work to make sure that only those who are able to work legally in the UK are offered employment. This is usually done when you are invited for an assessment or interview.
