About the Freedom of Information Act (FOI)

The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) gives you certain rights of access to recorded information held by the Council.

  • Anyone can make a written request for information held under the terms of the Act
  • We must tell you whether the information is held by the Council
  • Subject to any exemptions, you are entitled to that information within 20 working days

Environmental Information Regulations 2004

As well as the Freedom of Information Act 2000, information can be requested under the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). EIR requests relate to requests for environmental information. Further information on the EIR can be found on the ICO website.

Requests for environmental information are also made by completing the Freedom of Information Request form above.

Please note the Council may charge for requests which take longer than three hours to locate, retrieve and extract information and for the cost of printing information.

How do I make a request?

You can request information by completing the Freedom of Information Request form.

How do I submit an Internal Review?

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your FOI request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Please complete the Internal Review Form.

Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original correspondence.
