Localism and Community Rights

The Localism Act 2011 introduced a number of rights for local communities, parish councils and voluntary groups.

Assets of Community Value

Local community groups can nominate land and buildings of local importance that could be placed on the List of Assets of Community Value.

Community Right to Bid

Communities have the opportunity to improve their chances of buying local assets like the village shop, library, allotments and pub under the 'Community Right to Bid'. The Right applies to both private and public assets.

The Community Right to Challenge

The Right to Challenge empowers community organisations, charities or Town/Parish Councils to bid to run council services, where they believe they can run them better.
